Use it or lose it – make the most of your credit card or switch!

The new financial year is a great time to review your credit cards – you could be paying unnecessary fees and accruing reward points which are going nowhere fast.

If you have a credit card earning loyalty or reward points, take a step back and think about your goals:

1. What are you hoping to redeem the points for in the long run? If it is a flight reward, calculate how many points you will need – and since frequent flyer programs are continually changing their redemption tables – check your preferred airline’s website for the most current points tables.

2. Review your credit card’s latest points accrual tables – many providers have reduced the points you can earn, and you may have received a letter in the mail informing you of changes but never stopped and calculated the impact on your goals.

3. Review how many points you have earned in the last 12 months and work out how long you will take to reach your goal. Open Frollo and review your income and spending habits and project forwards for the next 12 months and see if your current card makes sense.

4. Review your annual fee versus the benefits you have actually redeemed in the last 12 months. If you can’t remember your fee, Open Frollo, tap on Accounts Tab and under Transactions, type in Annual Card Fee to search across all your accounts.

If you feel you’re on the wrong credit card, then see our partner offers and compare to find a better card. Or if you chose to stick with your current credit card, set a reminder to conduct the same review at the end of the year – or just before your next annual fee is due!
